One of the best features of a dental discount plan is that you can afford to have as much dental works as you want. There are dental insurance policies that impose an annual dollar limit for the dental work that you can have fulfilled. These annual dollar limitations normally range from $500 – 2000. Any other extra dental work needed in the same year will either be paid out of pocket by the member or the member will wait until their plan rolls over for the following year to continue their dental care.

But it is different with a family dental discount plan. Family dental discount plans can be a low as $12 a month. With a dental discount plan you will discover that dental services such as teeth whitening, veneers and other cosmetic dental procedures are also provided at a discount cost. Where as your basic dental insurance policy will normally exclude that type of dental service.

Seniors do not really have any extra at home dental care habits to maintain unless advise by their dentist.  However, it is important to know that as we age there are subtle to more serious changes that can occur in our mouth, gums and teeth. Teeth may lose their whiteness and darken in color, and plaque builds up on teeth faster as we grow older. The risk of gum disease also is higher as we age. Left untreated, gum disease may also damage the bone that holds teeth in place, possibly causing tooth loss.

Other factors contributing to gum disease are dentures that do not fit, poor oral hygiene, illnesses and many medications.  However by seeing your dentist at least twice a year (or as often as advised by your dentist) for a dental check up and professional cleaning you help to maintain good oral health.
